Dear Bowlers,
2nd Oct:
Team Republic Bowling would like to congratulate Singapore's Development squad member, Fok Ka Wai upstaged a strong field to lead the Women's Open Masters first block finals of the 35th Hong Kong International Open on Friday (2nd Oct) evening.
Fok Ka Wai, who won this year's Indonesia Open Youth title, opened account with a cracking 256 to lead Macau's Chan Weng Sam in second. The Singaporean continued to fire lines of 193, 250 and 234 to stretch her lead to 87 pins at the halfway mark.
Despite two back-to-back 178s in the sixth and seventh games, Fok still held the lead by 53 pins heading to the eighth and final game from Hong Kong's Vanessa Fung in second. The leader finished off stronger with 211 to end the block with 1695 and the lead.
"After the two games of 178, coach Francis told me to switch my ball and move over to the left a bit more as the lanes were getting drier," said the 19-year-old Republic Poly biomedical student, Fok Ka Wai.
"I'm glad the change was made in time to finish strongly. I hope to maintain the same form for tomorrow and make the stepladder finals."
3rd Oct:
She failed to make the stepladder cut finishing eighth with 3176, 21 pins off sixth-seed, Chien. The top 16 Asian men and 16 Asian women in the preceding Hong Kong International Open Masters Final will be eligible to participate in the ABF Tour - Hong Kong 2008.
